Breadfruit Educational Productions is a Pacific Islander-owned company dedicated to media as educational resources that serve to create greater awareness of and understanding about Micronesia. In keeping with the mission, we support local educators to develop culturally responsive lesson plans to accompany the films, videos, and music. We also serve to cultivate opportunities for young creatives such as videographers, musicians, and graphic designers.

Meet the Filmmaker

Lola Quan Bautista’s inspiration, drive, and dedication come from her Chamorro roots; her parents, Felis and Josefina Unpingco Quan; and her large, extended family living in Guåhan (Guam) and in the diaspora. Her research focuses on migration, diaspora, and issues of social justice and her films aim to encourage audiences to consider the realities and challenges faced by Micronesians at home and away. Much of her work showcases the special role that women play in the transmission of faith, knowledge, and cultural traditions.

As an associate professor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Lola’s research has brought her to different places, expanding her knowledge and family networks in Micronesia. Lola feels fortunate to have been under the watchful guidance and mentorship of geographer, Murray Chapman. Along the way, she was adopted into another family and is blessed to have another mother from Satowan Atoll, Mama Sarlote, and a promise sister from Piis Paneu in Chuuk, Kathy Martin.
