Math Is Everywhere
About the video:
Two high school math teachers from Fefan Island, Chuuk, Michael Kanas and Alexcia Sillem demonstrate concepts of ethnomathematics to draw relationships between math and culture.
Chuukese women recycle rice sacks into mats and bags.
Michael uses geometry to measure common features of most Micronesian homesites, such as water tanks, grave sites, cook houses, and breadfruit trees.
Alexcia uses basic algebra to calculate time, labor, and cost of sewing traditional Micronesian skirts.
